Does the thought of giving a presentation raise your stress level? Come and learn communication and presentation skills that will enable you to be calm, present, and persuasive in public speaking situations. Over the course of six weeks, we will explore techniques used by theater professionals that enable them to tell clear and concise stories by focusing on verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as physical and vocal relaxation and warm-up techniques. The class will culminate in the presentation of a final speech. Gold Star Fee: $125.00.

Presented as a PUBLIC SERVICE by the Waukegan Sail & Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, the first five sessions will include boat terminology, required equipment and regulations, boat handling, navigation rules, aids to navigation, emergency conditions, marine communications, water sport safety, trailering, PWC operation, and knot tying, followed by a review and examination conducted the sixth session. This module is designed to present basic boating fundamentals useful to either novice or experienced boaters operating on either inland lakes and waterways or open water such as the Great Lakes. For those interested in boating on open water such as Lake Michigan, the course continues with the fundamentals of the GPS, nautical charts, the magnetic compass, plotting, and how the use of the GPS interacts with basic piloting techniques, all of which are presented the final three sessions. Individuals will have met the requirements of the recently enacted State of Illinois Boating Safety Education Legislation by satisfactorily completing the first six sessions including the examination. A textbook fee of $30.00 will be collected at the first session of the class. Piloting tools will be available for purchase at a nominal fee for those who require them. Come and learn the principles of beekeeping, including its history, honeybee biology, plant and pollinator relationships, and essential equipment and requirements. Dr. Jones is an entomologist, Director of the Midwest Master Beekeeper Program, and author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications. A textbook and $2 material fee are included in the tuition. B-Con/Bleeding Control is the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians' program to educate the general public on controlling life threatening bleeding. The goal of this course is to give the student the knowledge and skill necessary to be confident in extreme emergency situations. Through lecture and hands-on practical applications the student will learn to stop life threatening bleeding with tourniquets and bandages. A $25 material fee is included in the tuition. The Civil Air Patrol is the official Auxiliary for the USAF. CAP is charged to conduct three ongoing missions. Best known are our search and rescue/disaster relief missions, but youth education and development (the cadet program), and aerospace education for the community at large are also integral parts of our charter.
