CourseGraphic Dave Wilms, Sustainability and Renewable Energy Consultant with Advance Renewables will summarize why solar energy is so important for home and business owners. Attendees will leave with an enhanced understanding of how a solar installation works, the concept of Net Metering and using electric kWh credits, why it is important to use renewable energy to help mitigate climate change and move new buildings towards being “Net-Zero”, how to assess a site or building for its suitability for a solar installation, how to do a rough estimate of the electricity savings using a Solar Calculator from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, what types of racking systems are available for installation and the advantages of each, and the types of financial options that exist. The durability of the solar components, warranties, operation, and maintenance of the solar installation will also be covered. Bring a laptop if possible. The first part of the class will be informational, the second part will be hands-on to look at the potential for your specific solar project. Single student price: $19.
